Purple tropical flowers – Sacred Lilac

Sacred Lilac (Melia azedarach) is also known Chinaberry and produces round yellow or beige fruits. Birds like to feast on these fruits, and thereby spread the Chinaberry. Sacred Lilac is a much loved ornamental plant with distinctive one inch wide clusters of purple tropical flowers. The petals are pale purple while the petals are deep purple. The Sacred Lilac belongs to the mahogany family and originates from Asia. In Asia, this plant is used as a natural insecticide as well as included in traditional remedies. In the United States, the Sacred Lilac is considered a pest. It grows very fast and easily spreads from gardens to forests.
